I am very familiar with the feeling of guilt. No,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I don’t have a terrible secret. Many women experience this feeling as they continue on their journey to better health. They describe themselves as being “good” or “bad”, depending on whether or not they have followed their eating plan for the day. They describe foods as being “good” or “bad”, depending on their fat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], calorie or carb content. My question for all of you would be this: Is this actually helpful?

My answer would be no. Viewing ourselves as always being on parole makes us feel like we are “bad” for being overweight in the first place. Like we are second class citizens who need to be publicly flogged. I am a believer in positive thinking and positive energy. I think the more we think in these negative terms, the more negativity we will attract.
Instead,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I believe in taking responsibility for our state of being and our actions. This means letting go of the “shoulds” and “trying” and actually taking positive actions. Punishing yourself is not a positive action,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so throw away the handcuffs! You may need to take a look at the way you view the foods that you eat. As human beings we have the tendency to rebel when told we can’t do something, so making foods “bad” makes us want them even more. And if we think of nutritious foods as something used to pay penance for our crimes, this will definitely not make us enjoy or crave them.
Tastes can definitely be influenced by the way we think. Since I have trained myself to view food as something that heals and nourishes the body, I no longer crave some of my favorite “reward” foods. A few weeks ago I ate something that was on the “bad” list, something that I had not eaten in quite some time. It was too sweet, and tasted like chemicals. Why would I reward myself by poisoning myself with high fructose corn syrup and other artificial, possibly cancer-causing ingredients? It just didn’t make sense!

Oh my, we are talking about FOOD,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not committing assault or murder! I have been playing the weight loss game most of my life, and can admit that I too have viewed food and eating in similar terms. I have used food to punish myself and reward myself. When I am “bad”, I don’t get to eat foods I like. When I am “good”, I get to eat things that taste good. The problem is that the “good” foods used to reward are often not very nutritious and do not help me reach my goals, therefore once I have rewarded myself I have been “bad” again! See how this can turn into a never ending roller coaster?
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what food really is, and how I can help my clients let go of this guilt. Definition 2 comes closest to what I think women who are trying to lose weight and get healthy feel in regard to food. They often feel that if they eat something not so nutritious they have committed an offense. And it reality, this offense is imagined. Check the law books, I bet that eating a brownie is not on the law books as a serious crime. So why do we treat it as though it is?
In part I believe that society and the diet industry has programmed us to think this way. We come to view weight loss professionals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whether they be the person behind the Weight Watchers counter or a dietician, as the food police. We often try to conceal our crimes by wearing light clothing before a weigh in or starving ourselves a couple of days before. If confronted with our crimes, we sometimes “confess” as though we are about to be thrown in the slammer. Once again I ask the question, is this helpful?

Artificial sweeteners overwhelm your liver
If you or someone you know is addicted to sweet drinks such as sodas or beverages sweetened with sugar or artificial sweeteners,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], try this “Tea Juice” and you will see that weaning yourself off sugar or sweeteners will be much easier.
Tea Juice
Saccharin (Sweet n Low) is 300 times sweeter than sugar, aspartame (Equal) is 200 times sweeter than sugar and sucralose (splenda) is 600 times sweeter than sugar. Such sweeteners can only increase our sweet tooth and increase our taste of sweet things. If you can never get rid of your sugar cravings, any healthy eating plan will be difficult because you will constantly be craving “sweet”. Artificial sweeteners have also shown to promote the same blood sugar fluctuations as regular sugar, which, again will bring on “sugar lows” which will increase appetite and cravings. This is not to say, that something sweet now and again is not ok,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but it is those people who can not control their sugar cravings that are being sabotaged by these artificial sweeteners.
Boil tea bags in a large pot. Add 1-2 full teaspoons of stevia while still hot. (You may add more or less, based on your desired sweetness) Let tea cool and then transfer to the refrigerator in Ice Tea pitchers or individual size water bottles.

Your liver also produces bile, a crucial substance for detoxifying our bodies. It is the job of bile to help our bodies break down the fats we need and to assimilate fat-soluble vitamins. The result: You are more likely to gain weight and to have a greater difficulty losing it. So the more toxic your body becomes, the more difficulty you’ll have losing weight and keeping it off because your liver just can not work properly to break down fat.
Sweeteners increase appetite
Artificial sweeteners tell your taste buds that, “sweet stuff has arrived,” which to the brain means, “nutrition has arrived.” When artificial sweetened drink or food reaches the small intestine, the receptors find no nutrition. Your healthy eating efforts may be sabotaged if you continue to feel hungry all day. No one likes to feel hungry so you continue to eat more food until you feel satisfied, which in your effort to lose weight, may just be too much.
If weight loss or staying away from sweets has always been a problem for you, take notice of how much artificial sweetener you have been ingesting. That just may be the culprit. Make a resolution this year to give up the “fake” stuff and stick to natural alternatives like Stevia. You will not only be helping your weight loss efforts but you will also be benefiting your health.
What else do sweeteners do?
Now add up how many things you eat in one day that contain some form of artificial sweetener. The list may be very long. How overwhelmed do you think your liver is? Does it have the ability to work properly? Even if you keep your calories at bay and only drink Diet Coke with your meals, will you truly get down to the weight that you want, and stay there? It has been in my experience that the answer is “no” and until you are ready to commit yourself to a healthy way of eating, weight loss will always be a constant struggle.
Why do these people not lose weight? If I had to pick the most common reason why most people’s efforts have proved no results, I would say it is the deception of artificial sweeteners and processed diet foods. Yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you heard right. It is the diet coke, diet snacks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], processed foods and artificial sweetener in your coffee that is keeping you fat.
What are some alternatives to sweeteners?
It’s your liver’s job to distinguish between the nutrients you need to absorb and the dangerous or unnecessary substances that must be filtered out of your bloodstream. So the more artificial sweeteners that you consume in one day, the more you are overwhelming your liver with toxins and the less able it is to do its job of processing fat. And what happens if the liver can’t do its job? You can’t lose weight or worse yet, you gain weight.
